Hey you guys!
Its literally been a MINUTE since I’ve posted on here! I know I say this every single time, but school has been SO overwhelming. Whenever things start to get crazy academically, I have to take a big step back from blogging, social media, and my brand to focus on my school work. Honestly, it is extremely difficult to balance being a blogger and being a full-time student, however, summer is here, and I’m ready to blog all summer long! I ended the semester with a 4.0, and in August, I will be a college senior. I’m beyond excited, but also nervous because that means graduation is closer than it seems. Also, congratulations to all my readers and blogging peers that graduated this semester! I’m so proud of all of you guys, and I don’t think you guys know how much I’m inspired and motivated by all of you.
Now, a post like this has been on my mind for a while. I’ve realized that my blog hasn’t been as organized and consistent as I wish it could be. I know that sometimes life gets in the way, but I also feel that my content is not as passionate as it was when I first started blogging last year. So, I’m going to talk to you guys about what you can expect to see on the blog over the next few weeks, and why I’m making these changes!
1. Less Sponsored Posts
Yikes, I know that you guys have noticed this. My last two major blog posts have been collaborations with companies, and not my own fashion, college, or lifestyle content. I realized this during the school year and made a plan to stop this during the summer. As a blogger, you see other blogging peers doing lots of sponsored posts and collaborations with companies for product or even money. That started to push me to reach out more, so I could have the same opportunities, but my blog started to become more about making money instead of sharing my passion for clothing and college life with you guys! This doesn’t mean that I’m going to eliminate sponsored posts completely. Ya girl still has to eat. However, I do plan to be a lot pickier about what brands I work with to make sure it fits my niche and that I feel strongly for the brand/product. I also plan to post a lot of non-sponsored posts. The ratio should be something like 4:1, so I’m hoping I can really pull that off this summer!
2. More Sustainable Fashion
After taking that Fashion in Society course last semester and doing my capsule wardrobe experiment I’ve been a lot more conscious about my shopping habits. No, I am not a perfect person, but I still try hard to find ways to be fashionable without contributing to fast fashion companies. This includes thrifting, second hand shopping on websites like Depop and Poshmark, and researching the brands I already like to buy from to see their ethical practices. I really find sustainable fashion interesting, so I plan to share a lot more with you guys about that newfound part of my life!
3. Less Social Media, More Blogging
I know that most people say blogging and social media go hand in hand, but I HAVE to break my social media obsession. Social media has actually been affecting me negatively the past few months. I have been comparing myself to blogging peers and Instagram famous women. This really hit me out of nowhere, but I realized that the first thing I do in the morning is grab my phone and scroll through Instagram. If the first thing you saw every morning was the thing that hurt your confidence, it would kind of give your day a negative start, right? I’m not saying social media is bad, but it can be a pretty crappy influence every now and then. I would even tune out my boyfriend to scroll through my feed, and I’m literally checking my Instagram app every three or four seconds. Guys, its REALLY bad, and I’m not over exaggerating. These next few months, I will not be posting on social very much. I plan to post on Instagram a couple of times a week, maybe even less than that, so that I can focus on my life outside of social media. However, I do plan to still blog regularly because I absolutely LOVE sharing my life with you guys.
4. More Weekly Positivity and How-To Style
I started these two segments last summer, but I think I only did one or two posts and then I left them in the dust. You guys seemed to like them a lot, so I want to bring them back and have them stay on the blog permanently. They will even have their own sections on the categories menu (yay!). I loved doing Weekly Positivity because it allowed me to reminisce on the great things that happened to me that week. In the moment, I may have felt like my week was insanely awful, but to me, Weekly Positivity is a form of gratitude. I’m able to look back on my week and remember every positive thing that happened to me and appreciate it fully, and I feel it makes you guys remember the great things from your week as well! How-To Style was SO fun for me. I loved showing you guys the items I had and how I paired them into a really cute look. Styling in general is an activity that I enjoy doing, so bringing it to the internet and to an audience makes it more fun than I could ever imagine. I can’t wait to start this up again!
Those are the main changes that will be taking place on Lexi Chantel this summer. There will also be little small details here and there, but nothing as major as these. I think the direction I’ve chosen to go in will really enhance my blog and bring back the passion that was lost the past couple of months.
I’m already SO excited for the next post, and I hope you are too!
Until next time,
